It was unclear at the time, The Washington Post reported, when DACA recipients could begin applying for renewal of their work permits as a result of the court order.

While people who were previously granted deferred action under DACA can request to renew their status, the office said it isn’t taking new applications for the DACA program.

Alsup said he thought racism could be the reason for President Donald Trump’s plan to rescind protection from deportation to young undocumented immigrants, Bloomberg reported.

The judge said he perceived comments from the president as suggesting “racial animus towards Mexicans and Latinos,” pointing to remarks like when he said the Mexican government “send(s) the bad ones over.”

Trump lambasted the court system as “broken and unfair” when he took to Twitter to address the court order.
